CCHS Unified Track & Field Inaugural Season

By: Coach Jillett

CCHS Unified Track & Field had a fantastic inaugural season. The CCHS community came together to form a team of 17 athletes. The team had a “wonky” start to the season, as our first few practices had to be inside due to rain. Coaches and athletes alike were thrilled once the weather cleared and we were able to head over to Emerson for our practices. The team also competed admirably at each of our three meets this year; two at Newton South and one at Natick. Our athlete’s competitiveness and desire to improve was matched only by their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Every athlete watched their times decrease and distances increase in the events in which they participated.

While coaching up each athlete was a joy, it was what happened before and after practices and meets that was truly memorable about our season. Our walks over to Emerson were filled with songs and laughter, and our bus rides to meets were just the same. Many athletes began to stop by our Pathways classroom as well. Whether it was for a full lunch block, or just to say a quick hello, the impact that this team had on truly “unifying” the CCHS community was palpable. Overall, it was an amazing experience to watch new friendships blossom and old ones strengthen.

CCHS Unified Track also wants to thank the staff, students, and families that supported us throughout the season and made our first year an overwhelming success. The energy and passion you all brought to our meets added so much to the dynamics of our meets. This year truly would not have been possible without you!

To Coach Reed, Coach Jillett, and Coach Leigh congratulations on a tremendous first season!
