Salem Pirate Museum

On Wednesday, June 12th, the Pathways program took a trip to the Pirate Museum in Salem. During this trip we learned a lot about the history of pirates, and the misconceptions people have about them. A few days earlier, we made a presentation about pirates in New England, and the museum added to the knowledge we previously learned.

Our tour guide Patrick took us through the museum, and told us stories about several well-known pirates such as Blackbeard, Kidd, and more. As we continued through the tour, we learned about the punishment for piracy. We saw lots of pirate mannequins, a replica of a pirate ship, and a bar that many pirates went to. The walls had been covered with small flags that pirates used, some of which we had seen before while making our presentation, and we learned more about the meaning behind some the symbols on the flags.

Overall, our tour was very fun and informative. We all enjoyed our time in Salem at the Pirate Museum, and hope to come back another day.
